It’s true, too, when it comes to our HUBZone certification. In fact, a lot of people have heard of this one, but we’ve found that many don’t know what it means or the what the benefits of working with HUBZone-certified businesses brings to your organization.
Who is HUBZone certified?
HUBZone certification is only awarded to small businesses that function in historically underutilized business zones. These areas are called HUBZones, and they were established to bolster economic growth for locations that traditionally do not see as much business development.
In order to be HUBZone certified, a business must:
- Qualify as a small business
- Be at least 51% owned and controlled by U.S. citizens, a Community Development Corporation, an agricultural cooperative, a Native Hawaiian organization, or an Indigenous American tribe
- Have its main office in a HUBZone
- Have at least 35% of employees living in a HUBZone
You can learn more about this criteria here. Once these criteria are met, they need to stay satisfied in order for a small business to maintain HUBZone certification.
What are the benefits of working with a HUBZone-certified business?
We’re so glad you asked. Working with a HUBZone-certified business can save you money compared to working with other small businesses. When a business becomes certified, they’re able to offer 10% more than competitors on government contract bids. They also get to sell through GSA Advantage at 10% less than competitors. That means you get more money on a bid and save money on a purchase. In the end, it’s a huge benefit to your company.
Additionally, from a humanitarian aspect, the money that’s put into a HUBZone-certified business impacts the HUBZone it’s located in. This revenue helps boost the economy in the region by reducing unemployment and homelessness. In the end, everyone wins.
